Restricted access to water is a problem for us all, not just canoeists. swimmers, boaters, walkers, rowers and anyone wishing to participate in non-powered watersports and activities. We are restricted to using the rivers that have either an ancient right of access or where restrictive permission has been granted. This means that we have no access to 98% of rivers in England and Wales. The access to rivers campaign is currently fighting that to give everyone the right to use our splendid waterways. To find out more and to log your support go to: The government has recently stated that they plan to cut the budget given to DEFRA the government department responsible for our rivers and canals, due to overspending by £200 million on farmers. This means a massive reduction in the amount of money available to maintain and improve our rivers and canals, which will again reduce our right to access and the quality of our favorite paddle spots. Saveourwaterways is taking a petition to 10 Downing street to show why this is wrong and who is behind it please show your support by going to: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/saveourwaterways Alternatively you can log onto the website to learn more: |
